You always want is best for the kids you coach and we have it here with the Paavo.”

*** Issue of a coach truly wanting to become better

*** Issue of a coach who does not want to be like others.

*** Issue of a coach doing things other coaches don’t do, won’t do, or can’t do.

***A Paavo Clinic Is For Those Who Attend.

From:  The Clinic Development  1987 is today, and today is 1987.    2009-2010 still has what the clinic had in 1987.  That is, finding the individual who wants to become better, train that runner to become better, and then become better with racing performance.   Yes, how fast a runner can race for how long before slowing down is still the axiom of the Paavo Coaching Clinics.   In 1987 there was just one coach who had a grasp on the clinic training.  1n 2009, there are many, and many more runners benefiting.

***A Paavo Clinic Is For Those Who Attend.

From:  The Clinic Development..…Amazing as one looks at where a simple key experience takes one.   Little did I know that wanting to be a basketball coach as a dream in elementary and high school would lead to coaching cross country & track in Elkhart Indiana in 1968.  Dreams determine the unforeseen destinies of life.  Stepping on the track at Brookdale Junior High as a 9th grade track coach was intended to be a temporary stop to get to basketball coaching.  The temporary word disappeared quicker than any imagination could see. So it is with the Paavo Clinics.   We are still doing what we started to find in 1968.  And I ask any coach reading this, do you want the key experience the Paavo has to offer?

Your Runners—Making A Difference, Best Training, & Best Coaching

***A Paavo Clinic Is For Those Who Attend.

From:  The Clinic Development

1987 is today, and today is 1987.  It is all about what Paul Karasch says that I am using often and that is:  “Success never goes out of style.”   The demands of racing are still the same as in 1987.  The demands of training are the same.  And yes, the demands of coaching are the same and more intensified than ever due to the society kids walk out of onto your practice fields of today.  The coach of today has to decide early with his/her approach to what really must be done to get today’s kids to do what the kids of the 1970s did the first day of training.  A perspective must be understood, or there is no real look at what a runner can still do with the clinic knowledge that was born out of the hard work and high level training of the runners of that past.   Yes, a coach must decide that doing things other coaches don’t do must be a priority.  Coach Sellers, hanging around for a little longer.

From:    The Clinic Manual

*** C4-1 Three Training Tools

And C4-1-The Basic Training Tools

There are three:

  1. Oxygen Delivery as this is the first in every training progression.  It is basic and foundational.
  2. Lactic Acid as LA evolves from the Oxygen Delivery Progression as to when, what, and how much.  Deliver oxygen to deliver speed.
  3. Race Shocking is used from all previous races to use in the current race.  Training with oxygen and lactic acid will not fully be recalled to race without race shocking.

From:  The Clinic Cumulative Continuum—FROM COACHES LIKE YOU

Atypical Paavo Story…”Going from 3rd at the regional  to 3rd at State was just  a matter of knowing where to go to get the best out of kids on the right day.  Looking at the State Meet Results, it should be obvious that there is a process hat can be taught to coaches and kids that allow kids to have their best chance of running big at big meets.  It is about training and the beauty of the training progressions of the Paavo.  Why wouldn’t a coach jump on this?  Well, as with runners, it takes a certain type of coach to want to be the best by paying the price to be the best.”   Robert Ondrask, Giddings (TX) High School

It is a structure that provides a consistent and continual progression for training runners in order to get the most out of them, no matter their level. BY THE WAY, my girls team finished 4th at our State meet this past weekend, and while I didn’t have anyone in the top 25 medal winners, I was the ONLY team in our division to have all 7 competing runners under 22 minutes, and we were only 21 points out of second place, which is close in XC as we all know. This was our 3dr year in a row finishing in the top 4 teams in the State.”

*** From A Coach Just Like You—By 1986 with the fortitude and intensity of Sam Froese, a runner from Elkhart Central (4th in the 1987 1600 in Indiana), I knew I had the nugget that would lead to the gold mine as to training the individual as an individual who would then race the same way.   In 1987 the first clinic was offered and I thought many would jump at the chance.   Well, 14 showed up, but one is still coaching.  That coach, Rick Weinheimer, and both his teams just annexed the 2009 State Titles in Indiana.  The clinic is still at the same grass roots as in 1987….Coach Sellers, The Paavos.
